The Alchemy of the Image
For me, the magic of photography has always been in the creation of an image. I still remember the first time I saw a photograph emerge from an inkjet printer at a friend’s house in the early 1990s. The way the image appeared from seemingly nothing was absolute sorcery. That curiosity was further fueled by an uncle who worked for Kodak and would send me cameras and film. But it wasn’t until high school that I had my first experience in the darkroom. Seeing a print develop in a tray of chemistry isn’t just photography; it’s pure alchemy. I was hooked, and I have been refining my practice for nearly thirty years.
Beyond the Screen
In a world where we consume thousands of images every day in the palm of our hands, often smaller than the Polaroids of our youth, I believe a photograph deserves more. That’s not how a photograph should be experienced. A screen cannot replicate the experience of an image in print: larger than life, with intricate detail and a rich tonality that demands you slow down and look closely.
This is why I remain deeply involved in the craft, whether I am creating prints by hand in my studio or working in close collaboration with local master printers here in Jacksonville, Florida. Every piece is rendered on the finest archival media for tactile quality and longevity, ensuring that these works are crafted to last for generations.
Human Vision in a Digital Era
In an era of AI-generated imagery, I still believe in the value of human vision. Every work you see here was captured and conceptualized by me. While my Post-Visualization collection leans into the surreal, bending reality through imagination and thoughtful refinement, it remains a product of a human eye. There is no “prompting” here; there is only the deliberate translation of a feeling into a visual reality.
Limited Editions & Authenticity
My editions are strictly limited and each purchase includes a numbered certificate of authenticity. Once an edition is exhausted, that image is retired forever. Beyond digital fine art prints, I produce a small number of handcrafted works — salt prints, cyanotypes, and traditional silver gelatin darkroom prints — each limited to no more than 25 per edition and made entirely by hand. The Photographer
Patrick Morris (b. 1982) is a Jacksonville-native photographer and graduate of the University of North Florida (BFA, 2008). He specializes in landscape photography, with a particular focus on the coastal environments of North Florida he has known his whole life. His work also extends into abstract and minimalist imagery, exploring form, light, and the edges of photographic reality.
