Arch of Shadows

Light carves the structure from the void, creating a path for the eye to follow. It is the architecture of simplicity, where space is as heavy as stone.

This image was an exploration one evening after I purchased a new camera. The sunlight had faded to dusk and I was heading back to my car after wandering around downtown. I was exploring around this building as I walked, seeing what compositions might look good, eying different angles and then I saw this. It works so well as an abstract in my mind and it's unrecognizable as the local landmark that it actually is. The sharp contrast between bold whites and bold blacks with gentle gradients and angles play so well in this composition.
